This indigenous Congregation was founded by his Grace, Archbishop Charles Heerey, of blessed memory, the then Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, in 1937. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters following the Charism of Christ’s compassion bequeathed to them by their founder, responded to the burning health needs of the highly vulnerable group –women and children, by establishing Mother of Christ Maternity, Ogui, Enugu. This Maternity was formally registered with the Ministry of Health of Eastern Nigerian Government on 28th May 1958. The Maternity home later was upgraded to a Maternity Hospital in 1971.
